How to Get Involved

The mission of the Beacon Hill Seattle Community Noise Team is to produce high quality community-based quantitative results to compel responsible agencies, elected officials and policy makes to act to reduce the impacts of aircraft and other transportation related noise on Beacon Hill.  We seek to work with local, state, and federal elected and public health officials and policy makers to mitigate existing and future traffic-related noise pollution and noise pollution-related health effects. We invite researchers, community groups, and local residents to join our effort.

Our goals for policy makers and responsible agencies

  • Understand the data that supports our concerns that Beacon Hill noise levels are a public health hazard for an already adverse health burdened community and are unacceptable.
  • Consider alternative flight paths that mitigate noise pollution impacting Beacon Hill, or at a minimum redistribute them more equitably across a wider area.
  • Establish clear limits on the frequency, noise levels, and times of day of aircraft traffic.
  • Provide noise pollution abatements to residents within ten miles of an airport, including Beacon Hill.
  • Institute public health surveillance or investigation of the health and well-being effects of noise pollution, particularly for those at risk of cardiovascular disease and impacts on children’s learning

Invitation to community partners and researchers

We work with other community groups and partners that have a shared interest in reducing noise impacts, by communicating, educating, and advocating for evidence-based solutions to community aircraft noise. We provide resources to support residential and school noise investigation and mitigation, and engage researchers to document and publish effects.
